# Merlene Ottey did not have to compete in the 200 metres to qualify for the Olympic Games.
* Due to bronchitis and hamstring problems Ottey withdrew from the 100 metre semifinal to save herself for the 200 m.
¤ Although running the semifinal Ottey and Cuthbert decided not to run in the relay final (due to inuries) and therefore Jamaica had to scratch its team in the final.
