* Ottey decided not to run the semifinals over 100 and 200 metres (no information on her times in the heats).
# Ottey did not participate in Jamaican national trials this year but was chosen for the Jamaican team for the World Championships anyway. This was not the case for Juliet Cuthbert and Grace Jackson as they had not sought and obtained special permission to miss the trials. Therefore they were not included in the Jamaican team.
¤ Jamaica did not partipate in the short relay because Merlene Ottey was the only female sprinter selected for the championships (see note # above).
